Software Engineer (Internal tools)

Smadex S.L.U - Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain - Full Time

Smadex is a cutting-edge ad-tech company: we process more than 4,5 million ad requests per second, replying under 100ms (for reference, the Google search engine handles ~76,000 QPS). Every day we generate several TBs of data that need to be processed, analyzed and aggregated, so our real-time components get smarter every day. If you are ready to boost your professional career in the tech world, this is your opportunity.

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Platform Experience team. This role will focus on building internal tools, integrations, workflows, and business solutions for teams across the company, such as HR, Marketing, Finance, Sales, and Operations.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, end-to-end engineer who is comfortable working with greenfield ideas, understands how to translate business problems into simple technical solutions, and can decide when to build, integrate, automate, or leverage existing tools.

This is not a traditional product engineering role focused on external customers. It is a high-impact internal role focused on improving company efficiency through well-scoped, maintainable solutions.

What you will do

  • Build internal tools, workflows, and lightweight applications for engineering and non-engineering teams.
  • Design and implement integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand processes, pain points, and business needs.
  • Translate ideas and suggestions into clear technical plans and pragmatic solutions.
  • Evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs and recommend the simplest viable approach.
  • Improve or automate manual processes involving spreadsheets, approvals, documents, CMSs, email flows, and internal operations.
  • Deliver end-to-end solutions across frontend, backend, integrations, and data flows when needed.
  • Help define lightweight intake, scoping, and ownership practices for internal requests.
  • Ensure solutions are maintainable, secure, and appropriately documented.
  • Partner with the broader engineering group to align on technical standards and shared capabilities.

What we are looking for

  • 1+ years of experience as a Software engineer.
  • Strong full-stack skills and the ability to build end-to-end solutions with limited supervision.
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, and business workflows.
  • Good judgment when deciding between custom development, SaaS, automation tooling, or simple manual solutions.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments where requirements are not fully defined upfront.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A pragmatic mindset: able to deliver useful solutions without overengineering.
  • Ability to understand business processes and identify where technology can genuinely improve efficiency.
  • Ownership mentality: able to move initiatives forward, identify blockers, and make progress without constant direction.

Nice to have

  • Experience building internal tools or operational platforms.
  • Experience with CMS platforms, document workflows, or systems such as Adobe Sign, Google Workspace, Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with automation platforms or workflow tools.
  • Experience with frontend frameworks such as Angular.
  • Experience with Node.js, Python, SQL, and REST APIs.
  • Experience evaluating low-code / no-code options when appropriate.
  • Exposure to cloud environments and deploying internal services.

What We Offer

  • Join a highly motivated and talented team in a fun and friendly work environment.
  • Opportunity to work in a complex environment and gain experience from it.
  • Directly add value to the business with the projects that you are assigned.
  • Great compensation package.
  • Top location at the heart of Barcelona with a rooftop terrace, Barbeque, and a fully stocked fridge.
  • Great work-life balance: work from home (2 days per week) and flexible hours.
  • Professional development with a LinkedIn Learning subscription and other training opportunities.
  • Meal vouchers - Ticket Restaurant monthly allowance.
  • Monthly gym allowance: Choose between DiR and Wellhub
  • Monthly TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday) events and regular team-building activities.
  • Ping-pong table and arcade machine.
  • And more!
